My concern is that the completed installation was materially different from the arrangement described in the estimate. The estimate specified a tee at the rear of the shared external stop valve, so the supplies would divide close to that point. After concrete was encountered, the route was changed and the tee was moved farther back, leaving the shared pipe running beneath the building before dividing. In my view, this makes any future separation of the supplies less straightforward than the arrangement originally planned, it also used much less pipe and fewer pits were dug than planned. The full £4,500 installation price remained unchanged. I accept that this was an estimate, was not priced per metre, and that the obstruction required some investigation. However, in my opinion the final price did not fairly reflect the materially different route, level of work, materials and outcome. The invoice also included an additional £144 for tarmac. Before accepting the estimate I had specifically asked in writing whether the tarmac reinstatement was included, and the reply stated that the driveway patch would be reinstated with cold-lay tarmac. I paid £4,822 and disputed only the £144 tarmac charge, which the company subsequently confirmed it would not pursue. After payment, I received the response: “You’re welcome to the £144. Don’t spend it all at once 😅.” I considered this sarcastic and unprofessional. The company has since said it was intended as light-hearted, that was not how I received it. After posting my review, I received an 11-page letter alleging potential defamation, asking me to remove or amend the review within seven days and referring to possible legal action. I then received an email stating that solicitors had the required documents and were ready to proceed if needed, along with a phone call a few days later confirming I had seen the defamation letter. I found that response disproportionate and intimidating in relation to posting a review of my own experience.

I used Lucking to survey and fix a cracked underground pipe in the 150 year old property I live in. Causing a persistent surface leak and water build gradually approaching the front door. William gave me a high degree of confidence at the survey. Good communication and follow-up. Teams attended twice since a secondary underground leak was discovered after the initial trench dig and fix. Secondary leak required 2 further trench digs, Victorian lead pipe made redundant and new pipework installed using moling technology. Both teams worked efficiently, on-time and with minimal mess. Both friendly and professional. Good follow-up from the office to ensure I was happy with the job.

Lucking Utility Services Ltd I cannot praise them enough from my first telephone call to their office, to the work being completed. Firstly to the engineer that enabled us to have water. then the engineers that completed the work and left it clean and tidy. I would have no hesitation in recommending this company.

Everything about our experience with this company was exceptional and beyond our expectations. I had seen their details on the WIAPS website but initially tried other companies who were more local to me. However, they did not do the services advertised. Luckings do and saved me the hassle of dealing with Affinity Water who were very difficult to get the correct answers from. Luckings laid a new 25mm mains water pipe to my property and connected it to the meter/boundary box which seemed out of the remit of everyone else, including the water company. They used moling which meant that the fromt garden and concrete path down the side of the house did not need to be dug up. Bearing in mind this is probably a distance of about 25 metres it saved a lot of time and mess, Every person we spoke to and came into contact with was very friendly and helpful. They kept in contact and gave us any information we asked for and the quote quickly. My dad spoke to two different ladies in the office who were both friendly and nothing was too much trouble. William who came to look at the job and confirm that it matched the video we sent was again friendly, helpful and not rushed. He explained what would happen clearly and answered questions about how the pipe would work with our planned extension. As my house is being renovated, he also gave an alternative to having an insulated box on the outside of the house if I was happy to have a hole drilled in the kitchen floor. We were surprised and pleased that the work could be started within a week. The men who came to do the work were polite, friendly and wanted to do a good job. They were tidy, conscious that this was my home (even though it resembles a building site) and really aimed for a quality finish. When they came across more drainage pipes than expected, rather than making it sound like a big problem, he said "It's fine, I've seen worse. We can get round that no problem." I can highly recommend Luckings and would not hesitate to use them in the future. I am exceptionally pleased with the work that was carried out, the way it was done, the price and the time frame. What was turning into a nightmare ended up being a very straight forward and easy experience. My dad, who made the initial contact with them and did the follow up phone calls was also very impressed with them.

I had the team replace my mains water feed. They had to mole under a pre formed concrete drive. They did a fantastic job. Very tidy, very friendly and now my water pressure has increased from 11 to 25 ltrs per min. I would definitely recommend. Thanks guys

Lucking Utility did an excellent job on laying new mains water pipes for me. It is a family run company where the attention to detail is excellent. They arrived on time and did exactly what they said they would do. Would highly recommend.

I used Lucking services recently as I had a faulty electrical service cable, with the fault under my house. My house had not long been renovated so I was concerned I would have to start digging up my home internally. The team at Lucking provided me with a fantastic alternative, which meant minimal disruption and damage to my property. From initial visit to quote to work tacking place was within a week, so the speed of turnaround was brilliant. The team who came out on the day were professional and explained at each stage what was going on, they took all the stress out of a potentially very stressful situation!

    What is Horizontal Directional Drilling?

A Trenchless Solution for Efficient Underground Installations

Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) is a trenchless technology used to install underground utilities such as water, gas, electricity, and telecommunications lines. This method involves drilling a small pilot hole along a pre-determined path, then enlarging the hole to the required diameter to accommodate the utility pipe or conduit. HDD is ideal for projects that require crossing under obstacles like roads, rivers, or existing structures, as it significantly reduces surface disruption.

With years of experience in Directional Drilling, our team ensures attention to detail and seamless project execution from start to finish. We understand the importance of minimal disruption and work efficiently to meet deadlines, ensuring the work is completed to the highest standards.

    The Advantages of Directional Drilling

Cost-effective, Precise, and Minimally Disruptive Utility Installation

Directional drilling is the smarter, more efficient way to install underground utilities with minimal disruption to the surface. Whether you need water mains replacements or utility installations, this advanced technique offers a cost-effective, precise, and environmentally friendly solution.

At Lucking Utility Services, we specialise in Directional Drilling across East Anglia and the South East, helping businesses and homeowners benefit from faster installation times, reduced excavation, and long-lasting results.
